Ian provides critical advice in stressed and distressed situations for a range of clients and stakeholders. He has over 19 years of experience in advising companies, lenders, and investors in a number of different engagements, including implementing complex, cross-border financial restructurings, producing independent business reviews, creating contingency plans, performing options analyses, and undertaking formal insolvency assignments. Ian also undertook a secondment to the structuring and syndication team at a major UK asset-backed lender.
Ian has a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in management sciences from Loughborough University, is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and is a licensed insolvency practitioner.
Ian is recognized in INSOL International’s 2022 Young Practitioner Spotlight and the Global Restructuring Review 2022 as a “rising star” in the global restructuring and insolvency market.
Key engagements:
- Administrator of Farfetch Holdings Plc, the luxury online fashion marketplace retailer. Pre-pack administration.
- Administrator of Cineworld Group Plc, the former LSE listed parent company of the worlds second largest cinema chain. Pre-packaged administration to implement a wider restructuring alongside a US Chapter 11 filing.
- Lead financial advisor in respect of Cineworld's Part 26A Restructuring Plans, including preparation of the relevant alternative expert report.
- Advised the board of Ideal Standard, the multinational bathroom and sanitary ware group, on its US$900 million financial restructuring.
- Planned for and implemented the pre-packaged administration of a major UK law firm and negotiated the sale of various residual assets whilst also managing the relationship with seven counter-parties to a TSA.
- Led the contingency planning for the board of a Singapore listed commodity trading conglomerate with $3.6bn of outstanding financial obligations.
- Advised on the US$4billion restructuring of Ocean Rig, an offshore drilling contractor. This role involved US and Cayman insolvency procedures.
- Assisted the Joint Special Managers of various entities in the Thomas Cook Group, a global £10B turnover travel and leisure Group, acting on behalf of the Official Receiver.
- Led the provisional liquidation of SeaMex Limited, a Seadrill JV that owned and operated five jack-up drilling units in the Gulf of Mexico. Successfully negotiated the sale of the business and assets of the group.
- Led the provisional liquidation of the Markel CATCO reinsurance group and supervised the financial restructuring via a Bermudian Scheme of Arrangement.
- Advised the Malaysia Airlines group on its global restructuring, including the first use of a UK scheme to reduce liabilities under aircraft leases.
