Matt holds an accounting degree from the University of Notre Dame and certifications as both a certified public accountant and certified fraud examiner. He regularly speaks to professional organizations and academic institutions on accounting and regulatory enforcement topics.

- As the Chief Accountant of the Enforcement Division at the SEC, Matt played a pivotal role in hundreds of cases spanning financial reporting, auditing, asset misappropriation, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) violations, internal controls, market manipulation, insider trading, and other securities law matters.
- As a regulator, Matt has been involved in rulemaking in accounting, auditing, and specific disclosure areas at the SEC while spearheading coordination between the Enforcement Division and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board's (PCAOB) inspection and enforcement programs.
- During time in private practice, provided technical accounting advice, conducted investigations and supported litigation across a wide array of subject matters, including financial accounting and reporting, digital assets, FCPA, anti-corruption matters, compliance, disclosure issues, auditor malpractice, corporate governance, insider trading, market manipulations, False Claims Act litigation and asset misappropriations.
