Charles advises companies in whole company turnarounds and business transformations by providing actionable strategic, financial and operational advice to clients. Charles has 15+ years of international business experience with a focus on creating and implementing transformation and restructuring plans, assisting management with business plan development and stakeholder management in critical situations across a range of industries.

He has successfully led whole company turnarounds under different restructuring regimes.

He was formerly a portfolio manager at Mount Street Portfolio Advisers responsible for handling the negotiation and management of the lender’s forbearance agreements for non-performing credit portfolios which entailed taking on interim positions in the United States and Germany.

Prior to that he was a director at EAA (WestLB’s bad bank). After university, he initially joined KPMG’s Financial Services practice and qualified as a chartered accountant before moving to their restructuring team.

He is fluent in English and German and has a good working knowledge of French.

Key engagements:
  • As part of the CRO office, supported the management team of a German automotive supplier manage stakeholders during an ongoing restructuring process (IDW S6)
  • Developed and implemented capital employed restructuring measures for a German consumer goods manufacturer and provided hands-on support for the CFO and CEO in an IDW S6 restructuring process
  • Developed cost reduction measures and a strategic options analysis for an online sports betting company, including carve-out preparation and business planning
  • Supported the CEO of a shipbuilding company sanity check and stress test liquidity and business plan projections in preparation for lender negotiations and helped drive prioritization and implementation of transformation measures
  • Provided hands-on support and guidance to the Procurement and Finance teams of a NYSE-listed automotive supplier in preparing for and successfully navigating through a chapter 11 process, by limiting the impact on working capital
  • Supported the CFO of a LSE-listed automotive supplier in validating the drivers of past working capital movements to identify areas for optimization
  • Managed the distressed M&A process on the sale of intellectual property of a major tourism player, delivering attractive pricing and favorable seller terms
  • Provided hands-on CFO support for a PE-backed real estate business in the post acquisition period, helped evaluate business opportunities and supported the establishment and implementation of frameworks and processes for adequate cash management and liquidity forecasting
  • Assisted a PE-backed portfolio company in the building materials industry develop a baseline across the indirect organization and identified org. efficiency improvement levers
