The client, a trading firm specializing in algorithmic trading in cryptocurrency markets, was being investigated by the CFTC for potential manipulative trading practices.
Among other trading strategies, the client was being investigated for wash trading and collusive conduct.
Our trading and markets experts were retained to review the client’s trading activity and claims. We used descriptions of the client’s trading algorithms to identify and separate trades related to various trading strategies distinct from any alleged wash trading activity.
We assisted the client’s counsel in preparing a presentation to the CFTC that explained the actual behavior behind the alleged wash trading.
